On October 17, 2023, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II met His Excellency Mr. Davut Gul, the Governor of Istanbul, at the headquarters of the governorate of Istanbul.
His Holiness was accompanied by their Eminences Archbishops: Mor Philoxenus Yusuf Cetin, Patriarchal Vicar of Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir, Mor Timotheos Samuel Aktas, Archbishop of Turabdin, Mor Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Assistant, the President of the Archdiocesan Council of Istanbul Mr. Sait Susin and members of the Archdiocesan Council.
His Excellency congratulated the Syriac community of Istanbul on the occasion of the inauguration and consecration of the new church.
His Holiness spoke about the historical presence and role of the Syriac people in the region. He also thanked the Turkish government for their support and for facilitating the building of the new church.
