Meeting Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Bogdanov

On November 10, 2021, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II met His Excellency Mr. Mikhael Bogdanov, Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Special Envoy to the Middle East and North Africa, at the Russian Foreign Ministry in Moscow. During the meeting, His Holiness spoke about the current situation in the Middle East, especially in Syria. He explained the difficult crises in the region affecting different levels of the lives of the people, namely politics, security, economic and social. He also spoke about their consequences on the population, especially migration. His Holiness pointed out that the church is playing an important role in offering support for the faithful to remain in their homeland. He asked His Excellency to continue the efforts in the case of the two abducted Archbishops of Aleppo Mor Gregorius Youhanna Ibrahim and Boulos Yaziji. His Excellency Mr. Bogdanov expressed the sympathy of Russia with the people of Syria, and spoke about the efforts of Russia in the region and its resolve to continue to work in order to reach suitable and comprehensive solutions.
