His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II visited Virgin Mary Syriac Monastery in Kasab – Syria, where he took a look at the progress of the works being made to restore the Monastery.

His Holiness was accompanied by His Eminence Mor Selwanos Petros Al-Nemeh, Metropolitan of Homs and Hama, Very Rev. Raban Dr. Boutros Kassis, Patriarchal Delegate of the Archdiocese of Aleppo and Environs, and Very Rev. Raban Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Secretary and Media Office Director.

 

 

 

 

His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II received their Excellencies Peter Heltai, Ambassador at large at the Hungarian Helps Program, and Mihalyi Geza, Ambassador of Hungary in Lebanon.

The meeting was attended by their Eminences: Mor Theophilos George Saliba, Metropolitan of Mount Lebanon and Tripoli, Mor Justinos Paulos Safar, Patriarchal Vicar in Zahla and Bekaa, Mor Clemis Daniel Kourieh, Metropolitan of Beirut, and Mor Timotheos Matthew, Patriarchal Secretary for Indian Affairs.

His Holiness discussed with their Excellencies the current situation in the Middle East, especially the persecution of Christians in Syria and Iraq. They also surveyed the projects that the Patriarchate is leading with the help of the Hungarian Government.

Their Excellencies reassured their support for Christians in the Middle East, as well as their ensuring the needed help to relief their pains.

At the end, His Holiness thanked their Excellencies as well as Hungary for the compassion it is showing towards the persecuted Christians.

His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II received His Excellency Archbishop Paul Sayyah, Vicar General of the Maronite Church, at the patriarchal Residence in Atchaneh. His Excellency was accompanied by Dr. Thuraya Bachaalani from St. Joseph University in Beirut.
During the meeting, His Holiness discussed with His Excellency some issues related to the role of Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) in the recent events in the Middle East, as well as the status of MECC after the designation of Rev. Fr. Michel Jalkh, General Secretary of the MECC, as President of the Antonine University.
The meeting was attended by Very Rev. Raban Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Secretary and Media Office Director.

His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II participated in the Christian-Islamic Summit at the Maronite Patriarchate Headquarters in Bkerke upon the invitation of His Eminence Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rai, Maronite Patriarch of Antioch and All the East. The Summit aimed at declaring a united position following the US President Donald Trump’s decision to move the Embassy of US from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, and declaring Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Following their meeting, their Holinesses, Beatitudes, and Excellencies issued a statement in which they expressed their shock at this decision. They hoped that the international community would stress the American president to change his mind; especially that it contravenes international laws which recognize Jerusalem as a spiritual city. They expressed their fear that this decision might lead to the violation of other international laws. The meeting also considered that this decision offenses Jerusalem which is a spiritual city for Jewish, Christian and Islamic religions.

The participants also expressed their support for Lebanese President Michel Aoun in his proposal to the United Nations to declare Lebanon as an international center for dialogue among people of different religions and cultures.

On Dec 8-9, 2017, The Commission for Bilateral Dialogue between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Syriac Orthodox Church held its first session in Cherepovets in Russia.

Our Syriac Orthodox Church was represented by: Very Rev. Raban Jack Yakoub, Director of the Patriarchal Youth Department; Very Rev. Raban Roger-Youssef Akhrass, Director of the Department of Syriac Studies; Deacon Imad Syryany, Staff member of the Patriarchal Secretariat; Mr. Shadi Sarweh, Executive Director of St. Ephrem Patriarchal Development Committee (EPDC).

The Russian Orthodox Church was represented by: His Grace Bishop Flavian of Cherepovets and Belozersk; Very Rev. Hegumen Arseny (Sokolov), Representative of the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia to the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and all the East; Mr. Sergey Alferov, Department for External Church Relations of Moscow Patriarchate (DECR) Staff member; Mr. Evgeny Bakhtin, DECR Staff member.

The Commission was established following the will expressed by Their Holinesses: our Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, Patriarch of Antioch and all the East and Supreme Head of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church, and Patriarch Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia, during their historical meeting in Moscow on November 10, 2015.

The Commission discussed collaboration between the two Churches in the following fields: Social service (Diakonia) and humanitarian cooperation, Contacts in the academic sphere, Monastic life, Interaction in media, public and cultural spheres.

The Commission had a very meaningful and fruitful discussion, during which a remarkable mutual understanding was reached for each of the above mentioned positions.

Apart from the meetings, members of the Commission visited various museums in Moscow and Cherepovets, and participated in the festive events held in commemoration of Sts. Athanasius and Theodosius – patron Saints of Cherepovets, which included a Holy Qurobo and a cultural musical concert.

His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II received His Excellency Hans-Peter Glanzer, New Austrian Embassy in Damascus, at the Patriarchate in Bab Touma in Damascus.

During the meeting, His Holiness discussed with His Excellency the situations in Syria. His Holiness wished the new ambassador a fruitful service for the strengthening of the relation between Syria and Austria.

The meeting was attended by Very Rev. Raban Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Secretary, and Media Office Director, and Deacon Imad Syryany.

His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II blessed the meeting of the Archdiocesan Council and the various committees of the Patriarchal Archdiocese of Damascus, at the Patriarchal Headquarters in Damascus.
His Eminence Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury, Patriarchal Vicar of the Patriarchal Archdiocese of Damascus was present.
His Holiness listened to the members of the council and committees and gave his suggestions and recommendations to them for the development and better ministry of the Archdiocese.

His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II received His Excellency Cardinal Mario Zenari, Apostolic Nuncio in Damascus, and His Excellency Archbishop Cyril Vasil, Secretary of the Congregation of Oriental Churches, at the Patriarchate Headquarters in Bab Touma, Damascus. During the meeting, His Holiness and discussed with his guests matters concerning the Church in the Middle East during these hard times, especially in Syria. His Eminence Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury, Patriarchal Vicar in the Patriarchal Archdiocese of Damascus, attended the meeting.

The Syriac Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch hosted, at Mor Aphrem Monastery in Maarat Saydnaya, a formal reception in honor of the delegation from the United Kingdom, visiting Syria upon the invitation of His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II.
The delegation included members of the House of the Lords: Baroness Caroline Cox, Lord Raymond Hylton, Lord Carey of Clifton, Mrs. Eileen Carey, as well as religious leaders from the Anglican Church: Rev. Andrew Ashdown, Rev. David Thomas, in addition to Mrs. Nasrin Sharifi, and Mr. Samuel Mason.
His Holiness welcomed the delegation and asked them to help the Syrian people people, especially in lifting the economic sanctions imposed on Syria by the West.
The delegation had the opportunity to meet with dignitaries from Saydnaya.
His Eminence Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury, Patriarchal Vicar of the Patriarchal Archdiocese of Damascus, attended the reception, as well as Christian leaders and dignitaries from Saydnaya.
 

His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II received a delegation from Elamkulam Church in India, at the Patriarchal Residence in Atchaneh. The delegation was headed by their Eminences: Mor Dioscoros Kuriakose, Metropolitan of the Simahasana Churches in the North of Kerala and Abbot of Malecuriz Dayro, and Mor Antheemos Mathews, Metropolitan of Muvattupuzha Region of Angamali Diocese.

Their Eminences Mor Philoxenus Matta Chamoun, and Mor Timotheos Matthew, Patriarchal Secretary for Indian Affairs, attended the meeting.

His Holiness discussed with the delegation matters related to their church.
