On July 27, 2019, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II attended the ceremony of Installation of the new Syriac Catholic Archbishop of Damascus His Excellency Mor Youhanna Jihad Battah. The ceremony was presided by His Beatitude Mor Ignatius Youssef III Younan, Syriac Catholic Patriarch of Antioch and took place at St. Paul Cathedral in Bab Sharqi, Damascus.
During the ceremony, His Beatitude installed His Excellency as Archbishop of Damascus for the Syriac Catholic Church.
His Holiness was accompanied by His Eminence Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury, Patriarchal Vicar in the Patriarchal Archdiocese of Damascus, Very Rev. Raban Boutros Kassis, Patriarchal Delegate in Aleppo and Environs, and Very Rev. Raban Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Secretary and Media Office Director.
His Beatitude Joseph Absi, Greek-Melkite Catholic Patriarch of Antioch and all the East, Alexandria, and Jerusalem, His Eminence Mario Cardinal Zenari, the Apostolic Nuncio in Damascus, as well as Archbishops and representatives of the various Churches in Damascus, attended the ordination.
At the end of the ceremony, His Holiness congratulated His Beatitude Patriarch Younan and His Excellency Mgr. Battah wishing him a fruitful service for the glory of God and the growth of His Holy Church and hoping to strengthen the cooperation between the churches.
 

 

On July 20, 2019, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II received His Excellency Mgr. George Abi Khazen, Latin Apostolic Vicar in Syria, accompanied by Rev. Fr. Bahjat Karakash, at the Patriarchal Headquarters in Bab Touma – Damascus.

The meeting was attended by His Eminence Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury, Patriarchal Vicar in the Patriarchal Archdiocese of Damascus, and Very Rev. Raban Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Secretary and Media Office Director.

On July 20, 2019, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II met with the families participating in the second Suryoyo Young Couples Encounter (SYCE) taking place at Mor Aphrem Monastery in Maarat Saydnaya – Syria.

The encounter is organized under the supervision of His Eminence Mor Anthimos Jack Yakoub, Patriarchal Vicar for Youth affairs and Christian Education. Seven Couples from each of the Syriac Orthodox Archdioceses in Syria, along with their children joined SYCE to share experiences about their marriages, listen to various spiritual lectures that benefit their marriage lives, and take part in the various workshops organized for this purpose.

His Holiness encouraged the couples to pray together, and ask the Lord to be among them and unite them. He spoke about the challenges that face our families, especially during the difficult times in Syria. He instructed them to raise their children to love the Lord Jesus and the Holy Church. His Holiness answered their questions, and blessed them and their children.

Their Eminences Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury, Patriarchal Vicar in the Patriarchal Archdiocese of Damascus, and Mor Anthimos Jack Yakoub were also present.

On July 19, 2019, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II received His Excellency Mor Youhanna Jihad Battah, the newly elected Syriac Catholic Archbishop of Damascus, at the Patriarchal Headquarters in Bab Touma – Damascus.
 
The meeting was attended by their Eminences: Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury, Patriarchal Vicar in the Patriarchal Archdiocese of Damascus, Mor Anthimos Jack Yacoub, Patriarchal Vicar for Youth Affairs and Christian Education, and Very Rev. Raban Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Secretary and Media Office Director, and Deacon Imad Syryany.
 
During the meeting, His Excellency invited His Holiness to the ceremony of his installation as Archbishop. He wished the presence of His Holiness and asked for his blessings and his prayers seeking the grace of the Lord in his ministry.

On July 14, 2019, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II received His Excellency Mr. Maher Mahfouz, Chargé d’Affaires of the Syrian Embassy in Argentina, at the Patriarchate Headquarters in Bab Touma – Damascus.

The meeting was attended by Very Rev. Raban Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Secretary and Media Office Director.

His Holiness welcomed his guest and discussed with him the recent developments in Syria. He also remembered the apostolic visit to Argentina last month.

On July 7, 2019, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II celebrated the Holy Qurobo at Mor Aho Church in Paderborn.

He was assisted by their Eminences: Mor Philoxenus Mattias Nayis, Patriarchal Vicar in Germany, Mor Julius Hanna Aydin, Director of External Relations in Germany, and Mor Georges Kourieh, Patriarchal Vicar of Belgium, France and Luxemburg.

In his sermon, His Holiness encouraged the faithful to remain attached to the church and to learn its teachings and the traditions that the holy Fathers have delivered to us and that we were able to keep to this day.

After the Holy Qurobo, His Holiness attended a reception held to introduce and promote Suboro TV. In his word, His Holiness spoke about the importance of Suboro TV, and its programs that offer spiritual and cultural knowledge as well as the opportunity to be connected more to the church.

On July 6, 2019, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II celebrated the Holy Qurobo at Mor Jacob of Serugh Monastery in Warburg, on the occasion of the Family Festival celebrated by the Patriarchal Vicariate of Germany. He was assisted by their Eminences: Mor Philoxenus Mattias Nayis, Patriarchal Vicar in Germany, Mor Justinus Boulos Safar, Patriarchal Vicar in Zahleh and Beqaa, Mor Julius Hanna Aydin, Director of External Relations in Germany, Mor Polycarpus Augin Aydin, Patriarchal Vicar in Holland, and Mor Georges Kourieh, Patriarchal Vicar of Belgium, France and Luxemburg, in the presence of the priests from Germany, and a crowd of Syriac families and faithful.

In his sermon, His Holiness spoke about the Lord’s selecting the apostles and preachers and commissioning them two by two to preach repentance and that the Kingdom of heaven is near. He pointed out that it is necessary to have faith in order to be able to do great deeds and perform miracles and healings. He also spoke about the Lord’s words: no prophet is without dignity except in his country and among his relatives, emphasizing the importance of encouraging and supporting all those who serve and preach the word of life to others, and not mocking or despising them. He said that preachers should be accepted joyfully. His Holiness reminded that each one is responsible for the salvation of all through preaching to all.

During the Holy Qurobo, His Holiness inaugurated the new bells of the Monastery.

The Family Festival took place throughout the entire day where lectures were delivered to the families which were present. They emphasized the role of the families in helping individuals learn about the identity, customs and church teachings and traditions.

After the Holy Qurobo, His Holiness attended a reception held for the occasion of the Family day at the Patriarchal Vicariate of Belgium, France, and Luxemburg, and for Suboro TV.
 
In his word, His Holiness spoke about the importance of the Syriac family that loves the Holy Church and raises its children in a true Christian way. He also said that, besides the international Mother’s and Father’s day, the Church has dedicated a day to celebrate the feast of the Syriac Family.
 
His Holiness also spoke about Suboro TV, and how it helps the family in its role, through providing spiritual and cultural programs.
 
His Eminence Mor Georges Kourieh, Patriarchal Vicar of Belgium, France and Luxemburg, welcomed His Holiness, and spoke about the projects executed by the patriarchate for the service of the faithful, especially Suboro TV.
 

On June 30, 2019, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II celebrated the Holy Qurobo at Kraainem, for the occasion of the Feast of the Twelve Apostles, and the Family Day at the Patriarchal Vicariate of Belgium, France, and Luxemburg.
 
He was assisted by His Eminence Mor Georges Kourieh, Patriarchal Vicar of Belgium, France and Luxemburg, in the presence of the Rev. Priests of Belgium, and a crowd of faithful.
 
In his sermon, His Holiness spoke about how the Lord chose his twelve Disciples; he explained how they followed Him without caring for all the hardships that will face them; and how they kept for us the true faith. His Holiness also considered that the disciples found in Jesus the Lord and Messiah whose power is from above.
 

On June 29, 2019, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II presided over the evening (ramsho) prayer at Mor Shemoun d’Zayte Church in Zellik, Belgium.
 
The prayer was also attended by His Eminence Mor George Kourieh, Patriarchal Vicar in Belgium, France and Luxemburg, as well as the clergy and faithful of the parishes in Brussels.
 
At the end of the prayer, His Holiness attended a choir performance for the feast of Sts. Peter and Paul and St. Shemoun d’Zayte.
